Louisiana’s Flu Immunization Rate Among Seniors Doubles
Leadership helps drive quality improvement

The importance of leadership in health care quality improvement is evident in Louisiana’s senior population flu immunization rates.
Governor Bobby Jindal was promoting senior flu immunizations when this photograph was taken with eQHealth’s community development team 13 years ago, and he’s in the news again this year with the same message. (That's Dr. Theodore Borgman, a member of LHCR's board, receiving his flu shot with Bobby Jindal looking on.)
The immunization effort has certainly been successful. In 1996, the flu immunization rate was 32.5 percent for Louisiana seniors. The most recent data available (from 2006) reveals a 66.7 percent flu immunization rate among seniors – a 100% improvement.
