eQHealth Physician Reviewer Information

eQHealth, the Quality Improvement Organization for Louisiana, under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is committed to improving the quality of health care received by Medicare beneficiaries in Louisiana. 

eQHealth is a physician-based organization and has a membership of 1600 physicians.  Physician involvement is essential to our success.  Physicians may participate in our quality improvement efforts as clinical leaders, educators, and committee members.  Peer review of the utilization of services, quality of care, correctness of DRG assignment and EMTALA are also our responsibility through our CMS contract.  We are recruiting physicians to act as Physician Reviewers. 

Physician Reviewers are experienced practitioners who meet the following:

- Are licensed in Louisiana where the services being reviewed were performed or may be a military physician who actively practices in a military or VA health care facility in Louisiana

- Are in active practice (at least 20 hours per week) in Louisiana

- Care and treat Medicare beneficiaries on a routine basis and

- Have an active staff privilege in at least one hospital in the eQHealth area
(Active staff privilege means that a physician is authorized on a regular, rather than infrequent or courtesy basis, to order an admission to a facility; perform diagnostic services in a facility; or care for and treat patients in a facility.  Doctors of optometry are not required to have staff privileges.  Emergency room physicians and dentists who do not have admitting privileges in an acute care hospital can meet the requirement of active staff privileges.)

Upon receipt and review of your form, you will receive an application,  a “Confidentiality Statement” and an “Agreement for Physician Reviewer."  All documents will need to be signed by you and returned to eQHealth.  Following that, a brief training session will be scheduled in the near future.
